My educational background

Different disciplines and ideas coming together

My undergraduate degree is from the University of Notre Dame, where my major(s) shifted along with my interests and experiences as follows: freshman year: engineering; sophomore year: math and philosophy; junior year: philosophy and psychology, though for half of the year I studied in London and took courses in theater, music, architecture, creativity, religion, and literary theory; senior year: philosophy, with still quite a bit of psychology.

My M.A. and Ph.D. are from Brown University, where I did more specialized studies in philosophy, especially in metaphysics and epistemology.  My dissertation critiqued historically important views on freedom and responsibility, and explicated and defended my own views on the topic.

My expertise in critical thinking

Applying philosophy and critical thinking to business

Critical thinking is, and always has been, at the center of my  career writing and teaching philosophy.  Initially, I specialized in teaching formal logic and I fact published a textbook in that area, simply entitled Logic.  More recently, my thinking, writing, and teaching have shifted to informal logic, which is often called critical thinking.  In my craft- the craft or trade of philosophy, that is- critical thinking and argument analysis have always been front and center.

My approach as a generalist and as a philosopher

Consider my unique approach to business decisions

A generalist, I provide independent thought and creative thinking in a way that can enhance the work of internal and external specialists assigned to solving problems and completing tasks within your organization.
